Language

Used in: Movie, TV show

The language field contains the (original/native) spoken language of the film or TV show. Select an entry from the drop-down menu, and click the “Add another item” button if you want to add another entry.

There is no clear rule as to when a language is to add to the OFDb (besides the language that is spoken in the majority of scenes, of course). If there are only two, three lines in a foreign language, the language is definitely not to add. At least some parts must be spoken in a language to be added, or if the movie is marketed to be in those languages.

Examples

  • November: While the movie features only some German sentences, it is officially marketed as to be in Estonian and German
  • Die Hard: Some fractions of German are spoken throughout the movie—either to add it, or not might be ok
  • L’Auberge Espagnole: The movie contains substantial parts in French, Spanish, and English
  • The Story of China: While the narrator speaks English, interviewed people speak Chinese (with English subtitles); both languages are added
